THE THERMAGE PROCEDURE FOR TIGHTER SKIN
The Thermage procedure reduces the signs of aging skin, giving you a more youthful appearance. Also called ThermaLift, ThermaCool, and Radiothermoplasty, the Thermage procedure is performed with a technology cleared by the US FDA for the treatment of wrinkles around the eyes.

What is the Thermage procedure?
The Thermage procedure is an advanced way of tightening skin that requires only the touch of a sophisticated treatment tip to your skin.  It is performed with an advanced radio frequency device called ThermaCool TCT and requires no incisions or recovery time.

Is it safe?
The Thermage procedure is a very safe.  Although it is possible that skin damage can occur, this advanced treatment has been studied carefully in hundreds of patients with minimal reports of lasting adverse events.

How long does it take?
The Thermage procedure can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area you are having treated. Additional time may be required for skin preparation prior to the procedure.

When will I see results?
Recently published studies conducted by Thermage show that measurable tightening improvements appear gradually over 2 to 6 months after a single treatment session. However, many patients report seeing an earlier response.

How many treatments will I need?
A single treatment has produced good results in a significant number of patients.  However, your doctor will assess the number and frequency of treatments required to achieve optimal results for your skin.

How long will the effects of the Thermage procedure last?
The Thermage procedure causes an immediate tightening of the collagen structure with addition tightening over time. Unpublished reports by experienced physicians indicate that results may 18 months or longer based on the patient's natural aging process.

How long before I can return to my normal activities?
Most people return to their regular activities immediately following the Thermage procedure.  Some people experience mild redness (like a sunburn), but it usually disappears quickly. There is no special care needed after treatment, but sunscreen is recommended as a part of good skin care.

Ask you doctor how the Thermage procedure can tighten your skin without surgery.

Cosmetic Procedures

Botox
Is a unique cosmetic treatment to improve the appearance of frown lines and crow's feet by targeting the muscles that cause them.  We inject Botox into the targeted muscles to produce temporary, localized muscle relaxation.  It is minimally invasive and no recuperation time is required.  The areas treated last from 2-6 months.  The average time of effectiveness is 3-4 months.

Laser Hair Reduction
We utilize the Light Sheer Laser for the permanent reduction of unwanted hair.  The laser energy targets the pigment in the hair-root, which results in hair follicle destruction.  This non-invasive technique safely removes unwanted hair from virtually all parts of the body on individuals with fair to dark skin tones.  Common areas of treatment are legs, bikini lines, upper lip, underarms and back.  It's especially helpful for those who suffer from razor bumps.

Restylane
Restylane is a newly approved soft tissue filler that is made of Hyaluronic acid, which exists in all living organisms.  Hyaluronic acid has the bility to bind water in the tissue; however, as the amount of Hyaluronic acid decreases with age the skin looks older, less elastic and less resilient.  Restylane adds volume to the lips, cheeks and chin, making them look fuller.

Collagen
This injectable soft tissue filler immediately plumps up facial lines, wrinkles, and many types of depressed scars including those from acne.  It can be injected to smooth out the pucker lines of the upper lip and augment and define thinner lips.

Microdermabrasion
We utilize the Diamond Tome System which resurfaces the skin without use of crystals or other abrasives that may cause burning, irritation and skin reactions.  The Diamond Tome will produce the appropriate amount of exfoliation to produce smoother, healthier and firmer looking skin, with a mroe even skin tone.  A series of treatments can produce skin with fewer fine lines, age spots and less acne scars.

Chemical Peels
These therapeutic acids applied topically to the skin help with acne, aging skin, scarring, and pigment problems.  We utilize miild, medium and deep peels for problem areas such as the face, back and abdomen.  We customize the treatments to your specific skin type and needs.

What are Spider Veins?
Spider veins or telangiectasias are those tiny purple and red blood vessels found most commonly on the thighs or lower legs of women.  They are hereditary and can form anywhere on the leg, from the top of your thigh to teh ankle.  Occasionally spider veins appear on the face.  Varicose veins are larger.  They can appear raised with a bluish color and can become quite painful.  Even though spider veins and varicose veins carry blood, they are not part of your venous valve system.  Your spider veins and varicose veins can be eliminated permanently through a simple office procedure called Schlerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy is a relatively painless in-office procedure using a small needle to instill AFDA-approved solutions in tiny capillaries and larger varicose veins. The solutions irritates and destroys the inner lining of the blood vessel so it ceases to carry blood. The body then replaces this damaged vessel with scar tissue. This does not harm the circulation; rather, it improves it by eliminating the abnormal vessel. Several injections may be needed.

Chemical Peels or exfoliation, involves the application of a chemical to the skin to cause mild destruction of the surface of the skin. The healing process occurs in a controlled manner and may result in reduced scars, wrinkles, correction of pigmentation irregularities and decrease in sun damage. Acne is also effectively treated. Chemical peeling works by causing partial destruction of the upper layers of skin. New collagen grows on the skin, resulting in a smoother, more refined skin tone.

 Common Skin Conditions

Moles can appear anywhere on the skin, alone or in groups. They are usually brown in color and can be various sizes and shapes. The brown color is caused by special cells that make the pigment melanin. Most moles are referred to as benign nevi and are harmless. The term dysplastic nevi refers to moles that contain abnormal or atypical cells. These dysplastic nevi have a greater potential for becoming a skin cancer. The life cycle of the average mole is about 50 years. Everyone has moles. As time passes, moles can slowly change, becoming raised or change color. Small will not change at all. Anyone with a personal or family history of skin cancer should consult a dermatologist for annual monitoring and removal of suspicious moles. It is important to recognize early warning signs such as changes in color, shape or size of a mole.

Psoriasis is a skin condition which shows up as a rash with dry, silvery scaling patches, and can flare up for no apparent reason. The affected areas often crack and are sometimes painful. Psoriasis is found maily on the elbows, knees, scalp, chest and trunk, and can also affect the toenails and fingernails. It may begin in late childhood or young adulthood abd usually continues throughout life. The cause is unkown. Psoriasis can be controlled, but not cured. Topical steroids are the first line of treatment to control inflammation. Combination therapies using topical steroids and Vitamin D or A prescription creams provide more relief from the symptoms. Tar preparations applied directly to the infected area at bedtime is most effective. Various oral medications are available for severe cases.

Warts are a very common skin problem. They are caused by a viral infection in the top layer of the skin or mucous membranes. Although seen most frequently on the hands and feet, warts can appear anywhere in the body. They are harmless but can be difficult to treat. We offer the latest treatments (cryotherapy, electrosurgery, etc.), which are relatively painless and leave little or no scarring.

Skin Cancer is the most common type of cancer, and it is also the easiest to treat. A very important part of lifesaving cancer technology is the early detection and surgical cure of skin cancer. If a skin biopsy reveals that an area of the skin is cancerous, the dermatologist has an array or surgical procedures to treat the cancer, depending on the needs of the individual patient. Early detection and removal offer the best chance for a cure.

Actinic Keratoses are small scaly spots and back of the hands in fair-skinned individuals who have had significant sun exposure. If not treated, some actinic keratoses may become skin cancers. If diagnosed in the early stages, can be removed easily by cryotherapy (freezing), chemotherapy, laser surgery or other dermatologic surgical procedures. Sunscreens help prevent this condition.

Hair Loss, or Alopecia, can have many different causes and require a detailed history to determine the most likely cause. Hereditary balding or thinning is the most common cause of thinning hair. It is often necessary to obtain blood tests to determine the underlying cause of hair loss. Topical steroids and steroid injections into the scalp can help those suffering from hair loss or thinning by promoting new hair growth. This type of therapy is used predominantly where a medical cause of hair loss is determined. Several oral and topical medications are available for men with hereditary hair loss, which may slow the progression of the loss and increase the hair count. Topical therapy is available for women suffering from genetic hair loss.

Seborrheic Dermatitis is a very common skin disorder that causes greasy while flaking or crusty yellowish scales and mild redness of the skin. It most often affects the scalp. In adolescents and adults, it is commonly known as "dandruff". Seborrheic Dermatitis can also affect the skin of the face, nose, eyebrows, ears, arms, trunk, legs and groin. Itching can occur, but is usually painless unless it becomes infected. It is usually worse in the winter months. The exact cause of Seborrheic Dermatitis is unknown. Treatment depends on the person's age and its location on the body. For adolescents and adults with dandruff, treatment with shampoos containing tar, salicylic acid, or zinc will relieve mild cases of scalp seborrheic dermatitis. Infants with cradle cap can use a mild shampoo that contains tar. More severe cases of seborrheic dermatitis located on the skin will require stronger treatment with topical steroid lotions.

Athlete's Foot is actually ringworm of the foot. It is a fungal infection of the top layer of skin on the feet and is common in adolescents and adults. There are many different types of rashes, but the most common are scaling, flat areas, and patches, which often have a worm-like border. Itching is common and often the biggest complaint. Treatment includes topical anti-fungal ointments. More severe cases may require stronger oral medications. A medicated powder may also be given to help keep the feet dry. A fungal infection can last for several weeks.

Folliculitis is a surface inflammation of the hair follicle on the body's skin. It may occur anywhere on the skin, but it is most commonly distributed on the face, neck, buttocks, and thighs. Folliculitis can also be found in teh beard area, known as barber's itch or pseudofolliculitis and sometimes on the scalp along the front hairline with small, very itchy rash-like pustules. Folliculitis is caused by many different organisms; the most common causes are bacteria, yeast, fungi, friction from tight clothes or by shaving. Treatment depends on the type of orgaism or injury causing folliculitis. Most cases are mild and can be managed with a godo skin cleansing regimen, using mild cleanser such as Cetaphil. The cleanser may cause some dryness, which can be treated with gentle moisturizer. More extensive treatments include topical antobiotics or antifungal creams. Topical medications are sometimes used in combination with oral antibiotics or oral antifungals.

Acne, also known as pimples, although not considered a medically serious problem, can impair one's appearance and self-image, and in more serious cases cause permanent scarring of the skin. Although many cases for acne are seen in young people, there is a very large number of adults who suffer from acne. There are many different therapies available for the treatment of acne, and these treatments are oriented toward preventing flare-ups and minimizing scarring. Each case of acne is different. We strongly recommend individually tailored therapy.

Eczema is a general term that means a rash that is itchy. Eczema can be caused by allergic reactions to something we come into contact with. If there is a family history of allergies, this condition can be inherited. Eczema can be treated very effectively by avoiding certain substances, and by the use of topical and oral medications.

Dermatologic Surgery
We have focused in on providing special surgical procedures such as the removal of skin cancers, moles, and cysts. Many of these skin problems are best treated through in-office surgery, which is relatively painless.
